What’s Realistic For FSU Football Next Season?
Posted by NoleCC
Looking ahead to 2010, what is realistic for FSU Football? 8 wins? 10 wins? ACC Championship Game? ACC Champions? Is Jimbo Fisher staring down unrealistic and overly excited fans as he heads into his first season as a head coach?
Looking at the schedule:
- Home – Boston College, BYU, Clemson, Florida, North Carolina, Samford, Wake Forest
- Road – Maryland, Miami, Oklahoma, N.C. State, Virginia
Home games certainly appear to be in the Noles favor next year, with Clemson and UF being played at the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium. Â However, Miami and Oklahoma are on the road. Those two are not easy tasks, no matter where the game is played. Neither are UF and Clemson even though they’re at home. A lot depends on HOW the schedule shakes out too, since the ACC dates won’t be set until February.
On top of that, there will be 4-5 new coaches on the staff, and Jimbo Fisher will be at the helm of a program for the first time in his career. The 2009 Noles have at least 6 victories, and perhaps 7 if they can get by West Virginia in the Gator Bowl on January 1. Improvement is measured in wins first and foremost. Sure the offense and defense might get better next season, but is it a success if the Noles are mired in another 6-7 win season?
Realistically, with the talent on the offensive side of the ball and a coached up (hopefully) defensive side of the ball that will get more talent over the next couple of years, I think the bar should be set at 9 wins next season. It’s a realistic number, allows for 3 losses during the regular season, potentially an ACC Championship Game and a solid bowl game. More than that is gravy, and less than that would be a bit of a disappointment to me.
So what do you think Seminole fans? Where’s your bar for next year’s football team? What is realistic success for Jimbo Fisher’s rookie campaign?

While its sad that Bobby couldn’t go out on his own terms, I can say that I have awaited this day for a while. Change is good – keeps things fresh.
Revamped defense + returning Offense + good health = 2 losses (Miami in the opener as we work the kinks out, and OU on the road – still early). I think we get everyone else including a rebuilding UF squad (that will be key to future successful seasons).
I’m very, very hopeful that Miami will not be the opening game next season.
9 wins is a good start, but i don’t think we’ll lose to Miami. if we had ANY defense this year, we would’ve won 9 games. i don’t see anything about Miami’s returning defense that will stop Ponder & Co since they didn’t last year, either. should be interesting about the UF game as well since they’ll have a new DC and new starters. could be a great game…FINALLY.
