Deceptively Random and Deceivingly Meaningless Thoughts

1.   No, no , no!!!!! It’s the road team that is supposed to win this series!! Please stick to the script.
2.   Hey, at least in this week’s non-victory FSU led at one point in the game!!!! And who says there’s no such thing as a moral victory?
3.   Are we sure that was not Chris Weinke back there for Boston College?
4.   So it’s the Gold Out that works. FSU has gold in its color scheme right? Maybe they should try that.
5.   Sign seen at ESPN’s Gameday show: FSWHO? Good question.
6.   Just curious, are there ever any plays in a game officiated by Jack Childress’ crew that AREN’T reviewed by the replay booth?
7.   On the bright side, at least it wasn’t a 99 yard touchdown drive this time following that 4th and goal series that FSU once again failed to score on. This time it was only 88 yards. Why that’s an 11% improvement!!! And who says there’s no such thing as ….
8.   And on the halftime radio show came this fascinating comment on the first thirty minutes of action by FSU: “We’ll bring you the first half highlights, if you want to call them that, in a moment.†Just a guess, but I’m sensing just a tad of frustration there.
9.   From Monk Bonasorte during the pre-game radio show on the 39 missed defensive assignments last week: “You just can’t do that against college freshmen or even in high school.†Careful Monk. Two words of warning: PT.
10.   Nice piece by ESPN Gameday on Mark Herzlich and listing some other schools that donated to cancer research in his name. Just a quick question for ESPN though. Would it have been too much trouble to list the $9,400 FSU contributed? I mean it wasn’t like Florida State was playing anywhere nearby your show today or something like that. Nah, ESPN isn’t prejudiced against FSU or anything. Just a figment of people’s imaginations.
Bonus Deceptively Random and Deceivingly Meaningless Thoughts
11.   Asked by ESPN’s Holly Rowe as how to stop the numerous big pass plays plaguing FSU’s defense this season, Bobby Bowden responding as to what needed to be done, “Hey John, get back there.†Perusing the FSU roster of defensive backs I see a Greg, a Patrick, a Jamie, a A.J., a Dionte, a Justin, a Ricardo, a Chad (presumably not a hanging Chad), a Gerald, a Darren, a Jajuan, a Ed, a Korey, a Nick, a Terrence, a Jeff ….. but no John. Who is this “John†of which Bobby speaks and if he’s the one responsible for all these big plays given up why is Mickey still playing him?
12.   Just so everyone knows my sleeper team I picked in the ACC for this season was North Carolina. And if you caught the Tar Heels past two games, yup, they’re sleeping alright.
13.   Stat of the Weekend: In Friday night’s high school (don’t worry, I won’t get fired for saying those two words) game between H.B. Plant and Armwood the two teams combined for 298 penalty yards on 36 flags. Not to worry though. Plenty of ice was brought in after the game for the refs to ice down their throwing shoulders.
14.   During the FSU/BC game regarding the beer (and don’t we all wish right about now that we had one or six of those right about now) commercial that saw the woman driver push her male passenger out the door did you notice the disclaimer? “Stunt professional. Do not attempt.†Really?’Ya think?? I can see it now. “Hey Melvin*, let’s go take the pickup out for a drive at halftime and give that a try!!! Whattaya say?†*Note, there is no Melvin on the FSU roster for DBs either.
15.   This bonus deceptively random and deceivingly meaningless thought left intentionally blank while I go drink a beer or six for obvious reasons.

Once again Swarzbaugh, your observations and comments were right on!
#10 Herzlich mentioned the $9,400 donation during his post game interview. Better late than never? I am not saying it was Herzlich’s fault. I had the same thoughts about the listing produced by ESPN too!
#11 Bobby is still looking to coach John or is he headed to the John? You know, when the Head Coach follows the action about 30-40 yards behind the markers then is he truly aware of the plays and players?
Notes to Coach Bowden:
It doesn’t sound professional when you answer a reporter’s question with a question. Some of us may start thinking that you are at a loss for words with meaning! Are you still trying to find John?
Please, please, please Coach Bowden find other words for the Locker Room (when you show up in a timely manner). According to statistics, our team has had at least two demands from you for THE DEFINING MOMENT! It is supposed to be singular not plural!
Thank you for sharing this information
“Would it have been too much trouble to list the $9,400 FSU contributed?”
I agree, while it was only mentioned once (and in passing by the announcers), $9,400 is an impressive amount of money and the FSU alumni association deserved to get more press from it.
As a BC alum, let me personally thank you guys for doing it. It was a very classy show of what sportsmanship and ACC camaraderie should be about.
