Doak Campbell Stadium: No Stadium Cushion, Potential Logo Change

Time for some outrage Seminole fans! From the same people that have asked some fans to blindly renew season tickets while promising them “equivalent” seating in another area thanks to seating configuration changes.

Bye Bye Stadium Chairbacked Seats:

Tallahassee Democrat Article: New Policy Banning Chair-Backed Seats.

You know those lovely stadium seats you bring to Doak Campbell Stadium, so that you can sit on the benches without a stiff back or a fatigued fanny? Bye-bye. Starting next seasons, all seats with backs are banned, and you’ll have to pay $5 per game to rent the stadium cushions provided by FSU. Were some of the ones brought in by fans obnoxious? Yes. Does that mean they should all be banned as a “service for fans.” Hell no. Have a measurement for them, or require a certain model if you want to have a back on it. But requiring people to spend twice as much on a stadium seat EVERY SEASON is ridiculous, and it’s “nickeling and diming” of fans in a time when FSU is hemmoraging season tickets and FSU fans are scraping together money to support the team.

It’s garbage. I do have a wonderful model that has no back though, and I suggest you head to Garnet and Gold or Bill’s to pick one up. It even has a hang down cup holder!

Bye Bye Osceola?

Like that logo? If some FSU administrators have their way, that will be it for the Chief Osceola logo at mid-field. Instead, they’d like to place the school seal / torches logo at midfield to focus on FSU’s academics and the Vires (Strength), Artes (Skill), Mores (Character). The fact that Mores is anywhere on the football field is ironic to say the least.

Forget about the fact the everyone in the nation recognizes the Chief Osceola logo and associates it with FSU:

  • They can’t think of something better than the torches at mid field?
  • Can you imagine Chief Osceola continues planting a spear at midfield with a different logo?
  • What else is off limits in the future? Feathers? FS?
  • I say screw it and just paint a Garnet and Gold Nike Swoosh at midfield and be done with it already.

What say you fans? Leave me some comments!

This new policy banning privately owned seats has the distinct tinge of more revenue generation to it.

This also stuck out to me.

“Yet, according to officials, the privately owned seats have grown in variety and size over the years. Many now include arm rests, cup holders and back storage areas; some also recline.”

I’m not everywhere in the stadium or at every game but I have not seen any of those fancy ones.

Right now I’m not going to worry about the logo thing, but I would definitely not be pleased if they change it. Either the Seminole Tribe said something about it (why now after all this time?) or our admin is caving to PC.

    BFT…

Two things on the seats. 1) I was an offender for one game. I picked up one of those nice ones at Sam’s club a few years ago and brought it to one game. I never brought it back after realizing how far it leaned about about 2 minutes after I set it up. 2) I’ve found the use of my knee is an effective weapon against said chairs when they are in front of me. I’ve successfully defended my turf twice. LOL.

As for the logo… if the Tribe requests it… I won’t bitch, but I suspect it’s the PC police winning again, which is garbage.

I’ve been a Seminoles fan since Osceola was stompin’ through these parts whooping the hell out of federal troops and I say let it stand.I don’t watch football for the academics and I wouldn’t watch football in English class. Why are people always screwing with tradition…Oh,and about those seats,if they don’t fit certain requirments, don’t let’em bring’em in the gate.Done.

@3 Mars, if only everyone had your practicality!

I agree with everyone else that changing the logo is a stupid decision especially to the three torches at midfield. If they didn’t wanna use Osceola anymore they can come up with something better than the three torches. To me it seems that they wanna associate academics every chance they get to repair some of the damage from the cheating incident.

As for the seats, I personally don’t like them but I’m also part of the ‘everyone should be standing and cheering’ group. I know some people can’t handle the rigors of standing for three or four hours due to physical limitations. They ban outside food and drinks so it was obvious that seats are something else they can ban to make more money. It wouldn’t have gone over so bad I think if they had implemented this when everyone wasn’t hurting for money.

Good news on the logo, I emailed Randy Spetman about the potential change and he replied that this is a false rumor, no changes are planned.
