Response To Block-C.com

First go check out “It’s Not Our Problem, Florida State” over at the well-written and often hilarious Block-C.com. Then come back here.

Dear Willy,

I agree with 99% of the article, which is why I don’t generally deal with speculation at ScalpEm. Hell, that’s why I don’t claim ScalpEm is some legitimate source of news, it’s always been one fan’s take on whatever the hell he wants to talk about regarding FSU. On top of that, I don’t care about recruiting news. I don’t care if some 17 year old takes 47 visits to Clemson, Danny Ford himself comes out and spits tobacco juice on him and the kid bows down to worship Danny. I don’t care what FSU does either, because a bunch of those guys never play for FSU anway, or cause problems down the road and tarnish an overall good institution. Anyway, that’s beside the point.

Can I really say I’d think the NCAA was wrong had there been bowl or TV suspensions? No. Do I think it’ll happen in this day and age, no. The college football machine is too big. I just get pissy when people try to claim that it’s some huge institutional problem when in fact it was limited to some athletes in one class.  Now, if something like this happens at UF, Miami or Clemson, I’ll be right there to defend that school too when it comes to penalties. As long as we’re all playing by the same NCAA rules, I’m good with that.

As for the Tomahawk Nation stuff (theirs, not your comments about them), well I’ll let everyone else decide about that. There are supporters and detractors for every site. TN has a passionate (if not somewhat misguided imho) fanbase. They’re trying to be better than Warchant. They’re also trying to appeal to the young crowd that Warchant generally runs off. Good luck to them!

***Update***

Dear Chili,

I don’t disagree with you either. While I won’t go on the attack against TN, I will say that I agree that I don’t believe anyone out there that thinks the negative recruiting doesn’t go on, and / or that they had some epiphany about it and will inform the FSU coaching staff. And in defense of the recruit (and Clemson perhaps if they only used the word probation), if I heard “probation” I’d assume bowl suspensions too. I’m sure all any rival school is saying is “probation” which is, in fact, not a lie.
