2009 FSU Softball Newcomers

There are plenty of new faces besides Head Coach Lonnie Alameda for 2009, let’s take a look at who’s coming in for the Noles:

Amber Bryant (Freshman)

Amber is a speedy addition to the Seminole softball lineup. Her left handed bat, along with her legs are needed on the team behind speedster Carly Wynn. If she’s not patrolling the outfield, expect to see Amber when the Noles need a stolen base.

Kaleigh Rafter (Senior – Transfer from Detroit Mercy College)

A member of the 2008 Beijing Canadian Olympic Team, Kaleigh adds a powerful right handed bat to the Seminole lineup in 2009.  Expect to see her in the game behind the plate, or in the infield.

Shayla Jackson (Freshman)

Jackson was named Miami Herald Player of The Year her senior season. She will vye for time in the outfield at JoAnne Graf Field.

Lauren Varsalona – (Sophomore – Transfer from Indian River CC)

Varsalona adds a third arm to the Seminole Softball rotation this year, along with Terese Gober and local Tallahassee star Sarah Hamilton. If last years efforts were any indication of this year, Varsalona will have to have a good season to make up for the graduation of Tiffany McDonald.

Mallory Borden – (Sophomore – Transfer from Santa Fe CC)

Borden is expected to add depth to the Seminole infield, and proved some pop at the plate. She had 5 home runs and 14 doubles at Santa Fe last season and was an All-Conference (first team) and All-State (second team) player.
