Q & A With Eagle In Atlanta

We have a Q & A this week with Bill of Eagle In Atlanta, an all encompassing Boston College blog.

1. It’s year two in the Jeff Jagodzinski era, what are BC fans’ feelings about him now that the senior laden / Matt Ryan led team is gone?

The feelings on Jags are still a bit mixed. I’ve been very pro Jags but many were off the bandwagon during the two game slide. Chris Crane’s struggles have also left many questioning the direction of the staff.

The Notre Dame win helped silence the critics, but they’ll be back if BC struggles down the stretch. It’s somewhat natural though. No one is going to give Jags much credit until he proves he can win consistently with his own players.

The reason I remain supportive and optimistic is because of what we saw last year and the promising players this staff has recruited. As an apologist I also have to point out that despite the challenges of this season, BC is still in position to win the division.

2. Aponavicius has been less than vicious this season at 8-15 on FGs. Can the Eagles overcome a bad game by him to beat the Noles in Tallahassee?

I don’t think we’ll have a chance to find out. My guess is that he’ll only come out for extra points and the shortest of short field goals. I don’t expect him to even take the field for anything longer than 30 yards.

If BC attempts anything beyond that, it will probably be with our punter Ryan Quigley. Quigley has been good as a punter but has never attempted a field goal at this level.

3. Name one player that will change the game for BC on Saturday night, and put them over the top to beat the Noles.

Sadly, it really comes down to Chris Crane. He’s sort of our version of Chris Rix. He has the physical tools. He’s shown he can put together great games and even great plays. Other times he’s flat out terrible.

Against Notre Dame he was in game manager mode. He’ll need to do more to beat Florida State. Yet when he tries to do more unpredictable things start happening. If he’s good on Saturday, BC has a chance.

4. What’s your prediction for the game?

I actually think the game will be somewhat low scoring. I think BC will give Ponder problems with our big front line and varied zones. On offense I expect BC to stay conservative and focus on establishing the run. Ultimately it comes down to Crane. If he plays error free and makes one or two big plays, BC can pull off the upset.
