19 Ohio State 3
20 Pittsburgh 6

24 Michigan State 2
25 South Florida 16

Dropped Out: Connecticut (#14), Auburn (#17), Wisconsin (#19), Maryland (#23), Oregon (#24).

Okay… here we go with the explanations:

Frankly the Top 5 could be in almost any order and I would be okay with it. It will solve itself as the season progresses. BYU at #6 is overrated, I know, but you can thank Penn State’s icky performance at Purdue and my non belief in Texas Tech against real teams for that. Undefeated Vandy (3-0 in the SEC by the way) gets to crack the Top 10 for now. I mean, why not?

Georgia, UF hang around the same spots, Oklahoma State moves up because they keep winning. I expect a fall from grace when the start playing real teams, like Mizzou who should whoop them next week. Southern Cal looked better this weekend against the Ducks, so I moved them up, and Boise State keeps winning, even if it’s ugly. Consider that a little home away from home bias for the Broncos by me, since I like their style.

On to the ACC Bias… Virginia Tech has ugly jerseys… horribly ugly orange and whatever purple brown goes with it. But that’s better than earwax (GT) so it’s the Hokies and the Yellow Jackets, in that order. Ball State remains undefeated, so until they lose they’ll march up to #12 as a potential BCS buster. Oh, and I’m happy with Ohio State at 19 after a good game against Wisconsin.

For the rest? Your guess is as good as mine. I think Tulsa and Michigan State deserve it, but I can be swayed. South Florida hangs on, because Maryland lost to freakin’ Virginia. VIRGINIA!

  1. I just can’t justify ranking Kansas. They have zero quality performances. Zero good wins or losses.

I would not move UGA up again until they play a game. That is a depleted team with several studs out for the year.

Michigan State has wins over Notre Dame and Iowa. I’m going to hold off for one more week, though I can’t argue too hard there.

I think ranking BYU that high could be dangerous. How long until they play someone?

Finally, UNC outplayed VTech, losing only when their QB gets knocked out with an inury. They win in Miami with their backup, and beat an average UConn team last night. I’m ranking 5 ACC teams this week, and truly believe they are the 3rd or 4th best conference, heavy on depth, light on elite contenders.

Overall though, I like your poll.

Final note: you say you ranked Ball State # 12, but really ranked them # 18. I think it’s a typo, or possibly I am misreading.

TN… all good points… I’ll consider it. You misread Ball State / I wrote it a bit confusing… I mean until they lose they’ll climb slowly to #12… and that’s it. I’ll only rank them high enough to get them a BCS bowl if they go undefeated, which would be #12 as far as I remember, correct me if I’m wrong.
