Yes, Lonni served as UNLV’s pitching coach– and will most likely do this at FSU. But for their sake, I hope they get someone else. UNLV had no pitching– that is what innings this paslost games for them in the 6th and 7tht season. Check out their ERA– not good!

Ok, one down. Her trusty assistant from UNLV is headed to tally. Good choice b/c i doubt she was going to take a chance hiring someone she hasn’t worked with in the past.
Now time for the pitching coach…this will be interesting for sure. Does she go for a big name or someone that is a good teacher. Hopefully it will be both

My next hope is that the new staff will be able to attrach more of the top notch FL talent that now sees UF softball as supreme in the state.

SF… you make a fair point, but the pitching staff numbers are skewed… McDonald was asked to throw every important game, with an offense that was inept in most big games. That was the story of her career at FSU.

Gober had 30 appearances and a 3.23 ERA… brutal for fast-pitch. I’d even argue that 2.3 is less than respectable as a team if playoff contention is a must (Champion ASU was 1.48 Team ERA). McDonald had a respectable 1.69 ERA, but was 18-11 because of the offense (as you pointed out) and Hamilton, was used as relief for Gober, many times, after the game was out of hand.

Then toss in the fact that for the season, the Noles gave up 66 Unearned runs and you have a very mediocre team to begin with. (ASU gave up 26 unearned runs).

Look at the College World Series… Fresno State got hot at the right time, they were far from the most talented. Sometimes talent doesn’t get you a W.

Sorry NoleCC, but I didn’t see your previous comments. I still say that no matter how good of a job that Jana McGinnis and her Jacksonville State staff do at scouting the Noles, just based on raw talent the Noles should win hands down.

Yes pitching depth was not great this year but a team ERA of 2.3 is pretty good. I hope the new coach gets the bats going b/c the Noles have always pitched well but have never been an offensive powerhouse.

I’m assuming your comments are direct at comments I made elsewhere SF… and as I’ve talked about before, the Jacksonville State loss was bad yes, but it showed two things… 1) The lack of pitching on the team and 2) That FSU was well scouted, most likely due to the fact that Kayla Collins (former Nole) plays for Jacksonville State.

FYI to NoleCC if FSU was going to put up with mediocrity they would have just promoted the existing staff instead of going and getting someone from clear, across the country.
Who doesn’t hire the associate head coach when the head coach retires? FSU doesn’t when you loose to Jacksonville State in the 1st round of the regionals.

Spetman’s quote kills me…

“Lonni possesses all of the qualities that we are looking for in a head coach at Florida State,” Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman said. “Her priority is the overall development of the student-athlete and she has a passion for the sport of softball. We are excited to have her on board.”

Great… so mediocrity will be tolerated as long as everyone is getting good grades. Damn, if only FSU had that with the baseball team when I was going there, I’d have been starting at 1B in the late 90′s maybe.
