Boy… I just love the fact that FSU went out on a limb to schedule Maine for a football game in 2009. That’s just fantastic, and I’m happy to pay $40+ to sit and watch that.

Check out the full story on Seminoles.com… and leave your thoughts in a comment as to why FSU Football is doing this, and slowly becoming more of a joke.

Yeah this game is not going to be entertaining at all. When you think about it though, the ACC is getting more competitive each year. There is really no need to schedule tough non-conference opponents. We already play Florida and BYU that year, why add another non-conference tough opponent? I used to be a firm believer in strength of schedule, but I would rather have the Seminoles play a weaker schedule and play for a BCS bowl than have a top 5 toughest schedule and play in a bowl that means nothing. Look at the Buckeyes: Big 10 is weak as hell, they play non-conference teams like Akron, Youngstown State, Ohio and so on…..but they have made it to the title game the past two years (and regretfully, they will make it this upcoming year also). But yea, it does suck for yall season ticket holders who have to pay for the ticket.

I don’t have a problem with this…the other out of conference games are BYU in Provo (which is not going to be easy) and UF in Gainesville. The ACC slate is tougher every year. For FSU to line up ONE lower tier game is no big deal…UF has Charleston Southern (WTF?), Troy, FIU, and FSU. Auburn plays, ULM, Southern Miss, and Tenn-Martin.

Also, with the future slates including Oklahoma, Air Force, BYU, and WVU, I don’t think FSU is slouching on their scheduling.

Who knows, maybe FSU will make a run that the national title that year…look at Kansas last year. They played Central Michigan, SE Louisiana, Toledo, FIU (all in Lawrence) and got the luck of not having to face Texas, Oklahoma, or Texas Tech in their Big XII South line up. The result (along with having a much improved team) was a run at the Big XII and national titles.

Interesting points, although I personally think the ACC getting tougher is a big function of FSU getting worse. Clemson might be the only exception, they’re getting more and more talent. Miami is down, we’re down. If both of those teams were up, I honestly think ACC football would be getting creamed.

The fact that ANYONE is pointing to BYU in Provo being a big game for the Noles is funny. Of course, it IS a big game now, with the current state of affairs, but not too long ago that was another cream puff on the schedule. In theory it should be in a couple of years, although I’m not convinced it will be.

It’s more of a fact that I have no use for scheduling FCS teams… I wouldn’t bitch if we scheduled a crap FBS team.

Maine?????? Tickets should be really tough to come by for that one. If FSU wants to play cupcakes schedule Temple but not I-AA teams.
