Baseball

FSU beat up on UF in Jacksonville last night, 10-2. Drew Hankin (Zookeeper of the Animals) always has fantastic reviews, far better than I can do, so check out Seminole Uprising vs UF in Jax. The Noles are ranked #2 in case you haven’t noticed, and my new favorite catch phrase was uttered on ABC this morning in Tallahassee when calling Buster Posey’s homer… “Buster’s got 99 problems but a pitch ain’t one.” And incidentally, Ryan Strauss threw a heck of a game, which bodes well for the Seminoles baseball team.

In other news, Scott Carter of the Tampa Tribune poses some questions about the location of the FSU / UF series. He’s in favor of playing MORE neutral site games, perhaps in Tampa, Miami, Orlando. Personally I hate the way the series is played now, but then again I’m in Tallahassee, and there are a whole lot of FSU fans elsewhere in the state.

Softball

The TMac Attack continues, and it’s basically risen to a full on Assault of opponents. Tiffany McDonald was named ACC Pitcher of the Week, AGAIN. She’s 13-3 on the season, and she’s killing opponents with her 1.01 ERA. The Softball team takes on FAMU today at 6pm, before heading out of town to play Maryland. The Noles have been playing better than I predicted this season. Look for them to continue winning as long as the bats keep producing. And, watch out if the team starts consistently getting bunts down.

Football

Where do I begin? Weatherford had his knee surgery. Andrew Carter, over at the Orlando Sentinel has one of the more fascinating Seminole blogs, by the way, and you can get a ton of “premium” information over there for free.  He’s got a good interview with ESPN NFL Draft Guru Mel Kiper, who speaks about Geno Hayes and Xavier Lee. He also has an interview with Everette Brown, where they talk about the off season and the defensive unit.

Practice has been going well from what I’ve read, but then again I read that every year. ChantRant isn’t shedding any tears for Drew Weatherford, but don’t let the headline bother you, Rich makes a very good point, Drew’s minor injury is going to help the Noles in the long run, with Christian Ponder and D’Vontrey Richardson getting more snaps. It’s going to be an interesting fall folks, especially with the running game.  My realistic point of the day… Don’t Expect Miracles. There is still a bit of flushing out of the system going on at FSU, but there should also be improvement this season. If the Noles don’t win 9 games (thanks to those two FCS opponents) then the season will be a disappointment, anything more than 9 is gravy.
