What FSU Sites I Read With Regularity
Posted by NoleCC
As a follow up to what I posted yesterday about my ranks of the major FSU sites, where I basically left out all of the “blogs” other than Tomahawk Nation I thought I’d point ScalpEm.com readers to what I read on a regular basis, and how I do it.
Here’s the first clue… learn how to use an RSS feed reader, if you don’t know how. I prefer Google Reader, basically because it simplifies everything I do by keeping all of my stuff on Google (generally). It means I can get to it on my mobile phone which makes it a piece of cake to keep myself up to date on what the Noles are doing wherever I am. What does that mean? It means I get all of my Seminole News delivered to one spot, instead of having to visit each of those sites every day. Although, I do visit many of the sites a couple of times per week, because I like to support them and their advertising. It’s not easy, especially for the average blogger.
So, how do I start my day?
I check Google Reader. I don’t read everything there, mind you, but I pay careful attention to the following sites:
ScalpEm.com – Basically, I glance at my own website first to catch any problems with my own RSS feed. :)
Chopping Block – Yep, Andrew Carter is the first thing that I read in regards to the Seminoles. I hope he continues to keep up the good work.
Garnet & Great – Rich Halten had a great idea; have a site that’s basically a long standing Where Are They Now? There’s not a daily post, but when Rich posts something it’s pretty darn cool. Anybody wonder why Warchant started doing a Where Are They Now segment? GarnetandGreat.com forced coverage elsewhere, and that’s always a good thing in my opinion, although maybe not for Rich’s site.
Seminoles.com Football, Baseball and Softball feeds – That way I don’t have to remember to visit the individual sites every day. I also have the RSS feed from the Top Stories running, that way I know if something major from any of the sports that I don’t follow regularly has a major story.
DannyFordIsGod.com – A Clemson related blog that just generally makes me laugh, and after reading all of the FSU related stories this year, I think we all need lots of good laughs.
Saurian Sagacity – Yep, I check a Gator website on a regular basis. They’re the most intelligent of the bunch, and they have a lot of non-Gator related posts. They’re a good place to check out what’s going on with the BCS, or if you’d like to make fun of Notre Dame.
ChantRant – Another Rich Halten production… it’s well crafted and kind of a hidden gem out there in the blogosphere, imho. don’t let the name fool you, it’s usually a lot let ranting and a lot more informative. Check it out if haven’t already.
Tomahawk Nation – Because I like to know what they’re up to over there, and occasionally there are some really funny or really insightful observations in the comments section.
NoleSports.com – I check them after everything else because they don’t offer RSS feeds. Or, I’m too stupid to find them, which is entirely possible.
So, I’m sure you’ve all noticed that I have two big omissions from the must-read list… Warchant and NoleDigest. Why? Because I refuse to subscribe for recruiting information and the occasional scoop. I can wait for the news to reach me me an extra hour or two later, or first thing the next morning. I realize that isn’t the case for many readers, so if you’re interested in a lot of recruiting news, or want to be part of a pay-only message board, by all means go for it. It just doesn’t suit me, because I like to have time to digest a topic prior to commenting on it, so being the first to report something at ScalpEm.com isn’t my goal. You’ll also notice I don’t mention ESPN or Fox Sports, basically because by the time they’re talking about an FSU story, it’s old news here in Tallahassee. And, they generally don’t get the story right on the first couple of tries.
Anyway, for the readers out there, I hope that gives you a little insight on where I get the bulk of my information for the questions and topics that I pose each weekday here on ScalpEm.com. I encourage you to support all of the Seminole related websites out there, and hopefully I’ve given you an extra site or two to visit on your quest for Seminole sports knowledge.

Bill, thanks for the nice words about ChantRant and Garnet & Great. My list of daily reads is much like yours, though maybe not the same order. Although I don’t rate Seminoles.com so high. Does it bother you they want more money from us boosters and season ticket holders so we can see their premium content? Seems rather greedy.
I don’t really worry about Seminoles.com “premium” content, since they still offer a ton of free content and top stories. The premium stuff is for video and audio from what I’ve seen generally, which is ok by me. At least I can kind of believe that money benefits FSU and the student athletes.
