5 Reasons FSU Will Beat VT On Saturday

By Bill Kristoph

1. The Seminoles have renewed faith in each other after last week’s victory over the Boston College Eagles. Granted, B.C. looked to be overrated, but then again, aren’t all #2 teams that lose a game to an unranked opponent just a bit overrated? The Noles played a team game for the first time in 2007, expect it to continue on Saturday.

2. Drew Weatherford isn’t looking over his shoulder this weekend. Xavier Lee is still suspended for academic reasons. That means the good old #11 is going to have free reign of the offense again, and with Jimbo Fisher down on the sidelines providing feedback, Weatherford should be able to move the ball efficiently with the improving Seminole pass protection.

3. Antone Smith has to have a big day at some point. He’s way overdue, and the running game was just enough to keep B.C. honest last week. Smith is due for a big game, and why not against the Hokies? Yes, VT sports a good running defense, but it’s behind B.C. and FSU, and all it takes is one mistake for a big one to open up.

4. Preston Parker. Do I really need to say more? Okay, fine. He’s got fire, desire and he’s Randy’s new man-crush. That’s reason enough to help beat the Hokies.

5. Special Teams. FSU and VT are traditionally great at special teams. The Noles have maintained a good B+ on Special Teams this season, the Hokies, however, are down. If the Noles get a big play on Special Teams this Saturday, it’ll spell disaster for Virginia Tech.

Speaking of way overdue, the Hokies haven’t beaten the Seminoles in 32 years, and I’d say Beamer is overdue. Both the passing game and rushing game for VT has picked up over the last few weeks. And finally, finally, the Noles are playing Va Tech on Blacksburg dirt. No pseudo-neutral sites like Jacksonville. Both teams will need their A game to win but my money is on the Hokies to win this game. They just have more to lose….

Good points ATLHokie, how do you think VT is going to attack FSU’s defense on Saturday?

Just wondering where all the Noles will be tailgating this Saturday down in Blacksburg??

Antone Smith has had a lot of good games this year, that he finished with only a few yards thanks to the Nole offense constantly getting called for holding. That will be an important area of the game this weekend for the Noles. Keep the penalties to a minimum.

Everytime I see “The Weed” lumber out onto the field for another cardiac arrest-inducing attempt at a 25-yard chip shot I am reminded of the ending to the second movie of the Karate Kid Trilogy (I refuse to recognize Hillary Swank’s bastardization of the franchise in the so-called forth installment. Ego, it does not exist):

Daniel-San has just beaten Chozen to within an inch of his worthless life and, just when you think he’s going to close the deal and death chop the hell out of Chozen’s neck, he reaches down, tweaks Chozen’s nose, and, in a rich nasaltone voice, triumphantly says, “Honk.”

That’s the exact freaking scene that flashes before my mind’s eye everytime FSU breaks the plane of an opponent’s 20 yard line and doesn’t manage to score on the same play. As a matter of fact, instead of cheering or clapping, I will now simply yell “honk” at my TV set every time we kick a non game-winning field goal of 37 yards or less.

We need a little more death chop and a little less nose tweak is all I’m saying.

    Let’s go, Noles!

Spellcheck, you have foiled me again. “Ergo,” dammit!

Any chance you guys are going to get an edit post function on here?

One tip, get Firefox Noleando, it has a spell checker built into it that will underline it red while you post. :)

As for the edit comment idea, your wish is my command. You now have 15 minutes to edit a comment.

Usually, when I’m going War and Peace on a post, I’ll just type it in Word and cut and paste when I’m done. It’s more of a proofreading issue on my part than anything else.

    Hey…

That’s a pretty cool little feature. Thanks, man.

I don’t know if it’s going to so much be about attacking the defense as it will be a field position game/turnover -> momentum -> quick score type of game. Our offense is no juggernaut despite getting better in the past few weeks. Our defense plays a huge role in our offense in that we get setup in short field situations. Me likey short fields ;)

ATL, me thinks EVERYBODY likey the short fields. Not too far off gameday, enjoy the game!
