Seminole Fans To Be Outdrawn In Jacksonville?

(Note: Uh, I’m embarrassed for spelling Jacksonville wrong in the title initially… sorry!)

Mike Bianchi has another blog post up. Basically, he says it’s embarrassing for Seminole fans if they are outdrawn by Alabama, because the game is in FSU’s state. Here’s my response:

Embarrassing? Yes, but not for the Seminole fans that travel to Doak each week. All I ever hear about neutral site games for FSU, is how great they are because the Alumni in Jax / Orlando / Tampa / wherever get to see the Noles play, but in reality a lot of those people don’t go to the game anyway. If the alumni in the bigger cities don’t snatch up those tickets, then our opponents gladly will.

On top of that, everyone knows that Alabama fans are pretty much psycho (I mean that in a good way) and will follow the tide anywhere. They could play a game in Alaska and there’d be thousand trying to get tickets outside the gate.

Maybe that’s why some fans are so insistent that FSU fans wear Garnet to the game, even though it has potential to blend in with Crimson (the same goes for white). I guess if we all wore gold, it would be far too obvious that FSU was outdrawn.

It’s a spoiled fanbase to a degree, that grew up on the feast of the 90′s. I’m sure a major factor is in the fact that the Noles continue to play with mediocrity. As for me, I’ll be there, with tissue for the nosebleeds I’ll be getting up high. I just hope I won’t be rubbing elbows with too many Tide fans.

I am really against neutral site games. What this is doing for FSU is depriving us of being able to see a historically notable opponent with amazing tradition come into Tallahassee and have to play at Doak, and depriving Bama of the same thing next year. Home-and-homes are much more attractive to me as a fan than going to JAX to play in some sterile stadium with no real college football atmosphere. And as a student, with the AD making us pay $45 for a ticket, I would much rather go drive 8 hours to Tuscaloosa to see the Noles play in Bryant-Denny than drive 2 hours to see them play at Jacksonville Municipal, just for the experience. And for every other neutral site game, those stadiums and campuses would be so much more electric if say Texas had to go to Norman or Florida had to go to Athens.

I agree wholeheartedly, but when both teams are getting $2 million, I can understand why the schools say “Yes.”
