Drew Weatherford Will Start For The Seminoles

Posted by NoleCC

I read an article by Emily Badger of the Sun Sentinel. Full article, here. I’m happy to predict the Seminoles Starting QB in the fall. That man, is Drew Weatherford. Why? One quote from Xavier Lee, which sums up why he hasn’t been able to win the job the previous couple of seasons.

“The terminology is extremely different,” Lee said. “Trying to memorize it and focus on the actual play — I think about the old plays, and it kind of confuses you sometimes. It makes you think too much instead of actually playing.”

And one other quote, which seemingly sums up Lee’s attitude at FSU.

“The first question I asked [Fisher] was, `Is it going to be a fair playing ground?’” Lee said. “Because … it’s been biased ever since I got here, I just want to know if I’m going to get a fair shake. He said it’s going to be as fair as possible: `The best man will play.”’

I’m sure Drew is struggling a bit too, but knowing that he’s a video rat, gym rat and doesn’t have the bitterness that Lee appears to have. Mark my words, Weatherford will be #1.

after personally attending 4 spring practices, and today’s scrimmage…. I will kindly disagree. Drew is having as much trouble with the offense.

after attending the scrimmage today, WOW. Lee looked incredible. all kinds of big plays. Thad Busby has been in town, and has been talking to him (he did as much right in front of us in the moore athletic center)… telling him what he needs to do to be a leader, and how he needs to stop walking arounjd like a sad sack. nobody owes him a thing, and he needs to work for it.

Jimbo has been in Lee’s face, and it might be the first time i have heard of ANYBODY yelling at Lee. Maybe it will keep him motivated.

Drew is Drew, but Lee has a much higher ceiling for potential, like it or not.

I’d hold out on calling this one so early.

here’s a quote from Bobby about today:

    (on the quarterbacks)

“That will be Jimbo’s job to make a decision on that. I thought that – we’re not blind – we saw who made the biggest plays today – it was Lee. He made the biggest plays.”

and Lee’s comment on terminology today:

“My mindset was just to try to eliminate the mistakes and go through my reads like I am supposed to and let the practice that we have been doing pay off. I’m getting used to the terminology and used to the plays and used to where everyone is suppose to be. The line was blocking good and gave me time and that helped out a lot. My decision making was pretty good but there is always room for improvement. I am looking forward to the next couple of weeks to improving y the skills I need to work on and everyone cooking in the same side”

and the guy you are HANDING the job to…. well, he wasnt so sure….

    Drew Weatherford, Quarterback

“I thought (my decision making) was OK. There were times I forced the ball and maybe I shouldn’t have. There was a double post we had where I threw it into coverage I probably shouldn’t have. All in all I thought I did a pretty good job considering it was the first scrimmage.”

again – THE FIRST SCRIMMAGE. dont take quotes out of context… its going to be a long spring, and summer… and maybe even a fall….

    like i said….. I’ll wait on this.

All fair points Troy, and Lee may have made big plays, but we’ve seen that happen before.

As for me handing a job to anyone, well I just don’t have that power, do I? :) I don’t think I’m “handing” it to Drew, but I do feel that Drew will end up on top. Drew is a self starter and motivates others around him. I still haven’t heard that about Lee. The fact that maybe some yelling will keep him motivated supports my call on Drew.

To quote Dan Hawkins, “IT’S DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL!!!!!!!”

It’s FSU. That’s all the motivation a player should need.

Maybe everyone involved needs to go play intermurals if they don’t want to step up and be team players.

    Bill,

I respectfully disagree. When Fisher and the new staff was hired, I thought I read that Bobby said he would let Fisher and his staff have the freedom to choose their QB. If Weatherford starts, its because he earned the job. If need be, I could see Fisher standing up to Bobby like Richt did.

    Paul,

What exactly are you disagreeing with? I didn’t say Weatherford would be handed the job, just that I believe he’s going to be the starter. I haven’t said that the coaches aren’t going to give the QBs a fair shake. But, based on attitudes I continue to read, I just don’t see how Lee will win the job, so I’m making my call now.

Weatherford will start for the ‘Noles. :)

I have spoken with people who have watched the practices in person and every single one of them tell me Xaiver so far out playing Drew.

Although they admit he does have a few brain farts(i.e. throwing ints), Drew as one person told me is playing much the same way he has during his first two years. He throws it shorts and throws it to backs… He still takes to long to deliver the ball in the pocket when he has to throw over 17 yards resulting in pressure or sacks.

I want both to improve. Especially Drew who showed me nothing last season…

  8. DONDRICK says:

I HATE DREW I FEEL THAT HE CAN’T THROW AND HE MAKE BAD CHOICES

I WISH HE WILL STEP DOWN AND LET EXAVIAR LEE A CHANCE

Tell us how you really feel Don. You might get your wish on the September 29, it seems to be a larger possibility than before.

I think your wish is a bit misguided though, I’d never want to see a player step down. I’d question that player’s desire, although I would question the coaches’ decisions when it comes to personnel.
