Bowl Game Booty

It’s a fact that a lot of fans don’t realize. Players get gift baskets when they go to a bowl game. The NCAA allows bowls to give each player a gift basket valued at or below $500. That’s a whopping $62,500 in gifts to each team. For the Emerald Bowl, FSU and UCLA made out pretty well, snagging a Fossil watch with Bowl Logo, Portable DVD Player, Souvenir Game Ball, Armor Gear backpack, Fleece vest and a baseball cap, all with the Emerald Bowl Logo and NCAA Football ‘07.

Here’s the best and worst of the Bowl Game Booty:

Best:

Various Bowls: Subscription to ESPN the magazine. Logo hats, fleece, etc with bowl logo. Various versions of the iPod. Portable DVD players.

Insight Bowl: XBox 360

Orange Bowl: Pioneer XM Radio with a 4-month subscription to XM

Alamo Bowl: Playstation Portable

Worst:

Sun Bowl: Helen of Troy Hairdryer (Sun Bowl)

MPC Computers Bowl: Pen and Pencil Set (Have fun with that portion of the basket ‘Canes)

Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl: Chick-Fil-A watch, wallet, lapel pin football & Coke bottle

Champs Sports Bowl & Capital One Bowl: Suntan Lotion

Oddly enough the BCS Title game has one of the worst gift baskets, only containing an XM Radio and a wristwatch. If you’re interested in the full list check out this full listing over on Warchant. A standing ovation is due for the Independence Bowl who not only gave out an iPod Nano, but gave the players a $20 gift card for iTunes so they can get some freakin’ songs on the iPod they were given. Someone should clue in the rest of the bowls that buying some songs for the guys is just as important as giving them the iPod. Independence Bowl players (Oklahoma State and Alabama, the game was great if you missed out) also received a George Foreman Grill. I remember college, that might be the best gift on the list!

So what would YOU want for your Bowl Game Booty?

the ipod is great…. but COME ON! every kid in college has one of those. I can verify that as fact.

i expect to see quite a few ipods show up on ebay the next few weeks.

the fleeces are nice, but who is going to wear that – when you get free Nike wear on a daily basis from your ACTUAL program?

portable dvd players – by far the coolest.

XM radio, Sirius radio are great gifts – for sports talk radio, and hearing new music…. but most of these kids have their own playlists – and dont really need the variety that XM gives.

i’m telling you – the DVD player is my personal fav. perfect for road trips, perfect for the back of boring classes (ive seen a few in my day) – plug your headphones in at Burt Reynolds, and watch one before bed (so as not to wake up the roommate)

xbox 360 is useless unless they’re giving me some games. have you SEEN those things? they’re like 75 bucks a game for the new ones!@!*!

thats crazy talk. might have to sell the ipod to get those games.

ps – what the heck is a HELEN OF TROY HAIRDRYER?

Damnit College Boy… you’re making me feel OLD. I still don’t have an iPod and I’m a computer geek for a living. On top of that, I feel even older knowing that I appreciate my XM in my Honda Toaster because of the variety. LOL. Sadly I listen to ESPN radio the most… which I could get in Tally, but the quality of it on XM is so much better.

Good point about the 360… but then again I’d only buy one game for it. Gears of War.

    Um… I Googled the Hairdryers? http://www.folica.com/Helen_of_T_369_1.html

I agree that iPods are only valuable with iTunes cards. BTW Troy, this college gal just got her iPod and lil sis doesn’t have one.

my god, kate. thats just so sad.

well, its even sadder when i reveal the fact that – I don’t own an iPod.

hows that? – but darn sure 80 percent of the student body does. and everytime i see a player walk through the moore athletic center – they do. Everytime i’m driving across Stadium Drive on my way to work, and they’re illegally crossing the street from burt reynolds instead of taking the tunnel – iPod on the head.

its sad. Gears of War, eh? im an EA Sports fan myself. thats just me, of course.

and i would LOVE to have XM or Sirius – i instead listen to 1270 or 1410 (which doesnt come in to well where i live)

but yeah – i was just looking at it from an FSU athletics perspective….

anyhoo Kate – congrats on the ipod – i still make mp3 cds (holds about 130 songs) – and since my moods shift so much on music – i like the ability to change cds, or create new cds at anytime, without fudging an itunes playlist everyday.

Do you think the hair dryer has the Sun Bowl logo on it?

  6. TroyShamrockNo Gravatar says:

    i can almost guarantee logoage.

what about the lotion for the champs sports bowl?

you think friedgen used it to help “grease him” into that shirt he was wearing tonight.

good god, man – eat a piece of fruit for cryin’ out loud!!!!

I might have to nominate “logoage” as ScalpEm.com word of the year. lol.

Easy on the Fridge… I appreciate a guy that makes me feel tiny at 6′3″ 250+ (New Year’s resolution #1… get that down to 215. :-P)
